How engagements work
A clear question.
A proportionate response.
The first task is to understand the decision. Then agree the evidence, analysis and output needed to support it.
Define the decision
Agree the question, available evidence and what a useful answer needs to contain.
Examine the evidence
Review the data, conceptual model and assumptions before adding complexity.
Test & interpret
Use a proportionate review or modelling approach and make uncertainty explicit.
Deliver a clear answer
Document conclusions, limitations and the next steps the evidence supports.
Practical questions
Before we begin.
What is the best first step?
Email a short, non-confidential description of the decision, the evidence available and the deadline. A scoping discussion can establish whether the question is a suitable fit and what a first piece of work would involve.
Can an assignment begin with a small review?
Yes. A bounded independent review or diagnostic is often a useful way to identify the next step before committing to a larger modelling exercise. The question, evidence base and deliverable are agreed first.
Can Peter work within an existing project team?
Specialist input can be scoped as a subcontract, a staged work package or technical mentoring. Responsibilities, confidentiality and the interface with the wider team need to be agreed.
How are fees and timescales agreed?
Fees and delivery dates are agreed in a written proposal after reviewing the requirements and availability. Fixed fees may suit a clearly bounded review; larger or evolving work may suit staged or day-rate support. No published price on this site is a standing quotation.
Does the practice certify carbon credits or provide regulatory approval?
No. The offer is independent scientific analysis, modelling and interpretation. Accredited verification, registry certification, legal advice and regulatory decisions are distinct responsibilities.
What about employment or longer-term scientific roles?
Enquiries about employment, fixed-term research and paid scientific contracts are welcome. Include the role or scope, location, time commitment and any essential requirements. Availability and suitability need to be discussed.
Can confidential information be sent through the website?
Please begin with a non-confidential summary. There is no upload service on this website. Agree confidentiality arrangements and a suitable file-transfer route before sending sensitive data or model files.
Start with the question, not the software.
Tell Peter what you need to decide, what evidence you have and when you need an answer.
Recruiting a geochemist or looking for longer-term scientific support? Enquiries about employment, fixed-term research and paid scientific contracts are also welcome.
